First Day of Spring

This morning I was privileged to be at the 10:00 a.m. Story Time at Charlie’s Corner in San Francisco. It is a cozy children-only store with books tailored just for little ones (and their parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles, of course). Their interior is delightful with a huge hollow tree in the corner with a round opening graced with a velvet red curtains for puppet shows.

Elise Filka used her frog puppet to interview me and Jeff played his guitar as we sang a welcoming song, a song about a spider and a song about the sun. I read my book “Spring”  and we looked for pink petals and quacked like ducks and picked out swans and fawns and other lovely spring-time things.

After that, I introduced my next book “Armadillos Amble” where we acted out the ABC story of twenty-six animals doing things with the same letter as their names. We ambled and hopped and slithered and ungulated (and learned new words) and then sang the “ABC” song. The half-hour story time ended with a goodbye song and a cloud of bubbles.

One mother said it was the ‘best story time she’s ever attended’.
